(b) Differentiate between (i) char and varchar data type (ii) DDL and DML
Ans: char and varchar data type: CHAR and VARCHAR are both used to store text in a database, but CHAR stores fixed-length data while VARCHAR stores variable-length data. This means CHAR always uses the full space given to it even if the word is small, whereas VARCHAR uses only the space needed for the text. For example, if CHAR(10) stores the word “RAM”, it will still use 10 characters by adding blank spaces, but VARCHAR(10) will use only 3 characters. CHAR is faster but wastes space, while VARCHAR saves memory.
DDL and DML: DDL (Data Definition Language) is used to create and change the structure of database tables, while DML (Data Manipulation Language) is used to add, update, and delete data inside those tables. In simple words, DDL is used to make and modify tables, and DML is used to work with the records stored in them. Examples of DDL commands are CREATE, ALTER, and DROP, while examples of DML commands are INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE.
